Mobile tyres and recovery in GU23 (Ripley and Send)

The M25 meets the A3 at the Wisley Interchange, and that one junction generates more of our GU23 work than the rest of the district put together. It is a high-speed, high-volume place where a tyre failure turns into a safety problem within seconds.

Step off it and the district changes character completely: Ripley's old coaching street, the flat market-garden ground around Send, and the lanes across Ockham Common.

The Wisley Interchange, the A3 and the old road through Ripley

The A3 runs the length of this district as dual carriageway, and the Wisley Interchange sits where it crosses the M25. Debris collects on that stretch and we see a lot of sidewall damage from it — tyres that were fine until something on the carriageway caught them at speed.

The old road through Ripley and Send carries the local traffic and is a much better place to break down: there are verges, side turnings and somewhere to stand. RHS Garden Wisley pushes a great deal of extra traffic onto both routes on a show weekend, and the overflow parking there is grass, which is worth knowing before you promise us a firm surface to jack on.

Where we work in GU23

This district takes in Burnt Common, Ockham, Ockham Common (Chatley Heath), RHS Garden Wisley, Ripley, Send, Send Marsh, Wisley, Wisley Airfield and Wisley Interchange (M25 J10 / A3).

Wisley Airfield is disused and unlit, so if you have stopped anywhere along that edge, send us a pin rather than a road name.

Questions we get asked about GU23

Can you attend the A3 near the Wisley Interchange?
We attend the slip roads and the roads off the junction, not the live carriageway or the M25 itself. If you are stopped on a running lane, get out on the nearside, stand behind the barrier and call the road operator before you call us.
Do you come out to RHS Garden Wisley?
Yes, including the visitor car parks. On busy weekends the overflow is on grass, which can be soft. Tell us where you are parked and whether you are on hard standing, and we will bring boards for the jack if we need them.
Is Ripley easier to work in than the main road?
Considerably. The old street through Ripley and Send has verges, side roads and somewhere sensible to stand a van. If your car is still driveable at walking pace on a flat, moving it off the A3 into the village makes the whole job safer.

Stopped in GU23?

Tell us whether you are on the A3 or off it. That single detail changes how we approach the job and how quickly we can safely get to the wheel.
