Mobile tyres and recovery in GU8 (Milford to Chiddingfold)

Thirteen villages and not much between them. GU8 spreads across a wide piece of west Surrey with no single centre — Milford at one corner, Chiddingfold and Dunsfold at another, Elstead and Thursley off to the west.

That shape matters for a mobile fitter. There is no obvious route through the district, so the road you are on tells us far more about how we get to you than the village name does.

The A3 at Milford and the A283 to Chiddingfold

The A3 clips the top of the district at Milford, where the slip roads and the junction with the A283 make a genuinely busy few hundred yards. It is the fastest ground in GU8 and the least forgiving place to stop.

From there the A283 runs south through Witley and Wormley to Chiddingfold, and the B3001 heads west through Elstead. Everything else is lanes: sandy verges around Thursley, high banks near Hascombe, and long unlit runs where a dropped pin is the only reliable way to be found after dark.

The GU8 places we come out to

We attend Brook, Chiddingfold, Dunsfold, Elstead, Hambledon, Hascombe, Milford, Milford Hospital, Peper Harow, Shackleford, Thursley, Witley and Wormley.

Milford Hospital sits off the main road with its own approach, and the village greens at Chiddingfold and Hambledon are useful landmarks if a lane has no signage.

Questions we get asked about GU8

How do you find an address on an unmarked lane here?
We ask for a pin from your phone, or what3words if you have it. GU8 has long stretches with no signs, no lighting and repeated house names, and a pin removes all of that guesswork in one message.
Can you fit tyres at a farm or a yard?
Yes, and we do a fair amount of it in this district. Firm level ground is all we need. Tell us what the vehicle is, because farm vehicles and light commercials take different tyres and we would rather load the right ones first time.
Are you slower to villages this far out?
Honestly, yes — GU8 is further from our Cobham base than Guildford is, and the lanes are slow. We will tell you a realistic timescale on the phone rather than a flattering one, and we would rather you knew before we set off.

Ring with the road number if you are on one, or a pin if you are not. Both beat a village name in a district this spread out.
