Mobile tyres and recovery in KT23 (the Bookhams)
A small district, and a straightforward one to work in. KT23 is essentially the Bookhams and the common behind them: wide residential roads, generous driveways, and a village centre along Lower Road and the High Street that gets tight at school times and quiet by mid-morning.
Because the driveways are good here, most of what we do is planned rather than emergency work — a pair of tyres changed before an MOT, a slow puncture dealt with at home rather than in a queue at a tyre centre.
The A246 through the Bookhams
The A246 runs east to west across the top of the district and is the only fast road in it. It is a single carriageway with hedged edges and few laybys, so if a tyre goes down on it the useful advice is to keep rolling gently to the next side road rather than stopping on a bend.
Everything south of the A246 is village streets and then the common, where the parking off the road is unsurfaced and can be soft after rain. We would rather change a wheel on tarmac twenty yards away than on wet ground, and we will usually suggest it.

Questions we get asked about KT23
- Can you change tyres at Bookham station car park?
- Yes, and it is a common request when someone comes back to a flat after work. Send us the bay number if there is one. We can work in a standard parking space as long as the car alongside is not parked so close that a jack cannot go under.
- Do you do planned tyre changes at home here?
- Most of our KT23 work is exactly that. You book a time, we arrive with the tyres, and the car does not leave your driveway. It suits anyone who would rather not spend a Saturday morning in a waiting room.
- Is it worth replacing two tyres or all four?
- It depends on the tread left on the others and whether the car is four-wheel drive, where mismatched rolling radius can cause real damage. We will measure what is on the car and tell you what actually needs doing rather than selling you a set by default.
