Mobile tyres and recovery in PO19 (Chichester)
Chichester's streets still follow the Roman cross, and North, South, East and West Street meet in the middle of a city that has walls around it. Inside those walls almost everything is pedestrianised, restricted or one-way, and the practical result is that most of our city-centre work happens in the car parks rather than at the kerb.
Outside the walls it is a different city entirely: retail parks, the hospital, the college and the university, all hung off a bypass that never stops.
The A27 bypass and its roundabouts
The A27 sweeps around the south of the city and connects to it through a series of large roundabouts serving Fishbourne, Portfield and Whyke. Those roundabouts are where the city's traffic and the through traffic collide, and they are busy from early until late.
It is dual carriageway with limited stopping, and the sensible advice with a failing tyre is to take the next roundabout and come off into the city rather than pull onto the verge. Once you are inside, Portfield Retail Park and Chichester Gate are the two easiest places for us to work — flat, lit, and with room to get a wheel off.

Questions we get asked about PO19
- Can you work inside the city walls?
- Rarely at the kerb, because most of the centre is restricted or pedestrianised and there is nowhere for a van to stand. We normally arrange to meet at one of the car parks instead, which is quicker for everyone and legal for us.
- Do you attend the retail parks off the A27?
- Yes. Portfield Retail Park and Chichester Gate are among the easiest spots in the district for us — level surfaces, lighting and space beside the car. Send us the store you are parked outside and we will find you without a fuss.
- Is it worth me driving to a tyre centre instead?
- Only if the tyre holds air and the drive is short. Driving on a flat destroys the tyre and often the wheel, so what would have been a repair becomes a replacement. If it is soft rather than flat, ring us and we will advise honestly.
