Mobile tyre fitting and recovery in PO22 (Barnham and Felpham)
The level crossing at Barnham sets the pace of this district. The barriers are down often enough that traffic backs up along the road either side, and drivers sitting in that queue are the ones who notice a tyre has gone soft — usually with nowhere to pull in and look at it.
South of the railway the district runs down to the sea at Felpham, Elmer and Middleton-on-Sea, where the roads are quiet, flat and lined with bungalows and long driveways.
The A29 at Shripney and the A259 along the coast
The A29 comes down through Shripney and is the main route in from the north, carrying lorries to the coast. The A259 crosses the bottom of the district linking Felpham and Middleton-on-Sea eastwards, and it slows to a crawl in summer.
Between the two the roads are ordinary and workable. The coastal end is easy ground for us: driveways, wide verges and space beside the car. The awkward spots are the approaches to the crossing at Barnham, where stopping means blocking a queue that is already blocked.

- Get through the crossing if the barriers lift and the car will move, then pull into the first side road. Stopping in that queue blocks the crossing approach, and we cannot safely work on a car with traffic funnelling past it either side.
- Do you fit tyres at home in Felpham and Middleton?
- Yes, and this is good ground for it. The driveways here are generally long and level, which is exactly what a mobile fitter wants. Book a time, leave the car where it is, and we will do the whole job on your drive.
- Can you replace a tyre the same day?
