Mobile tyres and recovery in PO9 (Havant)
Two trunk roads meet at Havant. The A27 runs east to west across the bottom of the district and the A3(M) comes down from the north to join it at Bedhampton, and between them they put a great deal of fast traffic through a fairly small piece of ground.
That is where the serious work in PO9 comes from. A tyre that fails at dual carriageway speed is not a puncture — it is a blowout, usually with rim damage and sometimes with bodywork damage from the carcass coming apart.
The A27 and the A3(M) at Bedhampton
Both roads are grade-separated with proper junctions, which is genuinely useful when something goes wrong: there is almost always an exit within a mile. Taking it is far better than stopping on a hard shoulder with traffic passing at speed.
Off the trunk roads, Havant itself is straightforward — the Meridian Centre, Solent Retail Park and the Langstone Technology Park all have proper car parks with room to work. Leigh Park is a large estate with wide roads. Rowlands Castle, up on its own to the north, is the quiet corner of the district.
Where we work in PO9
The district covers Bedhampton, Denvilles, Havant, Langstone, Langstone Technology Park, Leigh Park, Meridian Centre, Rowlands Castle, Solent Retail Park, Staunton Country Park and Warblington.
The retail parks and the technology park are the easiest places for us to work here, and they make good meeting points if your own street is difficult.
Questions we get asked about PO9
- A tyre blew out on the A27. What happens now?
- Get off at the next exit if the car is controllable, or stop as far left as you can and get everyone out on the nearside behind the barrier. Then call. A blowout normally means a replacement rather than a repair, and often a check of the wheel too.
- Can you fit tyres at the Langstone Technology Park?
- Yes. There is plenty of hard standing and room for a van, which makes it one of the more straightforward places in the district. We can bill the business directly for company vehicles rather than the individual driver.
- How far is Havant from where you are based?
- It is the western edge of our working ground and a long run from Cobham. We do come out here and we cover the district properly, but we will give you an honest timescale on the phone rather than a comfortable one.
